Title:

Optimization of furniture parts production based on computer program simulation

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

The main objective of this study is to find possibilities for automatic determination of the method of furniture parts production, particularly from hardwoods. The problems of determining the method of dimension stock production from softwoods could then also be solved by simple reduction of the limiting criteria for hardwoods. The first stage of the study is making the corresponding computer program for simulated cutting of boards. This program must be supported by fairly good graphic presentation which will enable the board defects display with sufficient accuracy. After the input of the board defects into the graphic display of the board (non-edged, semi-edged or edged), the computer must optimize the crosscutting-ripping and ripping-crosscutting of boards, and by comparing the two best optimization solutions, choose one of the two, suggest the cutting method and assume the results. The next stages of this stud y are experimental cutting of boards, simulated board cutting with same defects distribution as in experimental cutting and comparison of the experimental and simulated cutting results.
